Convergence of the Sapphic Trifecta!
Since most of the advertising has been on social media and plenty of us are avoiding it for good reason, I wanted to let you know: with Shelley Parker-Chan (She Who Became the Sun) in town from Down Under, Shelley, Tasha Suri (The Jasmine Throne), and I decided to take advantage of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to do an in-person event at Waterstones Trafalgar Square. Tickets to the in-person event sold out in less than 24 hours, BUT there will be a livestream of the event! Monday, May 30, 18:30 BST. Tickets are £5 and you can get them here, from Waterstones events. So tune in!
If you ARE attending the livestream and have any questions, drop them down in the comments! I can’t promise we’ll get to every question, but we’ll do our best.
Awards - Voting and Results!
IGNYTE awards voting is still open and I’m a finalist in several slots: The Unbroken for Best Adult Novel; Podcastle for best Fiction Podcast; and We’re Here for Best Anthology! Until June 10! Click here to see the full shortlist. Click here to vote!
Alas, I didn’t win the Nebula for Best Novel. That honor went to the deserving P. Djeli Clark for A Master of Djinn. Even so, it was still amazing to be on the ballot with so many people I admire. A hearty congrats to all the winners and thank you all for voting and supporting me through my first novel award season!
Other Appearances and Updates
I’ll be at Cymera Fest next weekend, both sharing a panel with Tasha Suri and Laura Lam (Seven Devils, Seven Mercies) and moderating a panel between Saara Al-Arifi (The Final Strife) and Rebecca Zahabi (The Collarbound). Tickets are available for both in-person and livestream of the panels.
The Faithless has been accepted for copyedits! We’re moving along in the process! I’ve even updated the map! If all goes as planned, we’re looking at a March release date, so only a couple years between book one and two—plenty of time for a re-read. ;) In the meantime, I’ll tell you what I’ve been reading…
What I’m Reading
I’ve been slowly chewing through The Expanse audiobooks. I don’t know why (I’ve been studying, seriously), but man, the way these characters get in my head and stick in my heart—I love it. Would love to accomplish that.
In my ‘how to nail a trilogy’ study, I’ve also been reading Joe Abercrombie’s latest trilogy, The Age of Madness.
For your sapphic villain needs, I’ve also been reading Misrule, the sequel and conclusion to the sapphic Sleeping Beauty retelling by Heather Walters.
May 2022 - A Quickie
Hello, I loved your book :))))
Anyway, I got this newsletter and wanted to tell you 2 things: one, I'm also reading Abercrombie's new trilogy, currently halfway through book 2 - don't you just *love* Savine and Vick?
And another one, have you read Mike Brooks' "The black coast"? It's amazing, lots of queerness hehe, and he's got a super way of describing all the different "gender levels" in one of the regions, via language. I ordered book 2 still halfway through reading 1, and can't wait for 3 (which is out next month).
I'm jealous you already got The Oleander Sword! I've got it pre-ordered, even though I bought her first book and not read it yet (I'll wait until they're all out, to read it in one go hehe)
By the way, I'm the admin in the Fantasy Faction forum - come take a peek if you'd like!
Thanks for being so great :) - Bea
